Using the words, language, and expressions of IBM employees from around the globe, this research has captured the experience of work-family facilitation as it is expressed and grounded within everyday life. This contributes to existing theorizing because it not only provides evidence for the hypothesized pathways and directions of effect found in other research, but it is also able to demonstrate a goodness of fit between the theories we have about work-family facilitation and the lived experience of the specific ways in which work and family life facilitate each other. Human resource development professionals can use these personal insights to enhance training and developmental activities. Future research can build on the existing theoretical work with confidence, knowing that it is congruent with and reflective of the everyday family experience.
