Visually brought to today's generation-at-large with stunningly-realistic, computer-generated imagery in the 2004 Martin Scorsese cinematic and televisual biopic The Aviator, for today's aviation professional and historian this is the latest of the seemingly-endless stream of books about the enigmatic and fanatically-driven American aircraft designer and speed and distance record-breaker Howard Hughes. It is a completely new account of the complex interplay between his well-known eccentricities, his undoubted technical and flying abilities and his tenacity and patriotism, and focuses on the protracted and hugely contentious creation of the largest aircraft ever built.
