Hybrid Air Vehicles (HAV), the Oxfordshire-based company that is developing the Airlander 10 hybrid airship project, has started working towards the type certification process for the aircraft with the European Aviation Safety Agency. It has agreed to buy helium gas from BOC Aviation for the Airlander, which is planned to conduct its first test flights next year. HAV will build and house the Airlander in the Grade 2-listed Cardington airship hangars in Bedfordshire. The type will be based on the hybrid airship developed by Northrop Grumman in response to the now-cancelled US Army Long Endurance Multi-intelligence Vehicle programme (in which HAV was a partner of the American company).
