Throughout its history, air cargo has been a dependable growth industry. Yes, there were off years in which international airfreight traffic demand was flat or barely grew, and even an occasional odd year in which extraneous events led to contraction. But most low-growth years were followed by corrections, and there were boom years in which global freight ton-kilometers jumped by 10% or more. A look at any 5-10-year period would reliably show average annual air cargo demand growth of around 6%.
