Few airplanes in the history of commercial aviation have been as enigmatic, mysterious, and just plain sexy as the Convair 990. There exists an almost Siren Song allure to the exotic jetliner which, if recent articles and letters to this magazine are any indication, continues unabated even to this day. Indeed, the farther we drift from the time of its airline career, the more 'cult-like' becomes the interest in this beautiful aircraft. How appropriate then, that we review the scale models created and marketed for this esoteric machine, with one of the two kits produced being as evanescent and reclusive as the 990 itself.
