Whenever experts from the aluminium industry talk about continuous casting, they (still) think in terms of the semi-automatic vertical DC casting process. Massive development efforts were made on this subject over the past 20 years, which have resulted in impressive progress. Let us take casting of extrusion billets for example, where billet surfaces as smooth as a baby's bum are achieved through the air slip mould technology. Another example would be the casting of rolling slabs in a magnetic field.
