The latest earphone models bear the marks of technology upgrades and improvements in cosmetic design. Speakers now deliver higher sound quality to go with more advanced MP3 players. USB earphones as well as units that support 5.1-channel surround sound have also been introduced. Snug-fitting ear pads, a retractable wire, a handy neck strap, a quick-release buckle, a soft headband, or hands-free controls make the earphones more comfortable and convenient to use. Makers are also switching to materials that are environment-friendly, or yield lighter and more flexible earphones.
