摘要

Our research fits into the ongoing debate on environmental policies' effectiveness to tackle climate change. A large strand of literature on climate change states that two economic instruments are needed to spur renewables among the energy mix portfolio: a carbon tax on polluting emissions and a research subsidy for research and development (R&D) activities in the renewable energy sector (Aghion and Howitt, MIT Press, 1998). The renewable energy industry presents still young technologies (far from competitive cost levels in the energy market), and it needs investment to encourage innovation in technologies and to achieve their potential (Dinica, Energy Policy, 2006).
