There is a greater realisation that building for 30, 50 or even 100 year life expectancies is considerably outdated. The emphasis now is to devise a strategy to adapt and change with the needs of society. Therefore the traditional belief that sustainability was about being green and minimal use of natural resources, has now been widened to encompass society's interactions with the natural environment. Sustainability is about balancing the social, economic and environmental needs of our society.
