When I entered graduate school forty years ago, searching for literature was very different from the current process. The amount of available books, journals, and articles was miniscule compared to what it is today. To find them, we had to spend much more time searching the wooden drawers of card catalogues and at best had access to monthly (and then annual) printed volumes of journal abstracts. Nothing was cumulative across years. We probably spent more time looking for materials than actually reading them. Today, with a simple click of the mouse, we can access seemingly endless amounts of sources from specialized databases and download articles to our personal computers without ever having to go to the library. What a change!
