1. Orange's partnership with Smartkey is the latest example of a telecommunications major employing blockchain to boost its portfolio of Industry 4.0 service offerings. 2. The key principles of blockchain - it is immutable, decentralised in an open ledger and encrypted - address the fundamental limitation to the IoT in that it is vulnerable to cyber attacks. 3. We see the rising implementation of blockchain technology into the IoT over the medium term as operators realise the value this service brings to the enterprise segment. However, we caution that the technology is still in its infancy, so more widespread adoption will occur only over the longer term.
