A part from loading computers, stowage programs on container ships and an occasional word processor used to produce crew lists, letters and reports by the master, computers figured very little on board ships until the turn of the century.rnShore offices were a different matter, with most large organisations operating standard office software for accounting, payroll and possibly purchasing functions. In liner operators, bills of lading, manifests and equipment control were computerised and in brokers' offices, voyage estimating software and charterparty editing programs were common tools.
