Growing a company organically or through acquisition places additional demands on the corporate structure, and requires a reassessment of how a business operates. "When we merged Lamnalco with the terminals business run by Smit, we looked again at the safety management systems and human resources and learnt a great deal about ourselves," revealed Ian Hugo, managing director of marine and offshore service provider Lamnalco (Nigeria). "As soon as you double in size, you need to do things differently."
