摘要

In addition to surgery and chemotherapy, radiation therapy is an important component in the therapy of tumors. More than two thirds of cancer patients receive treated radiation oncology treatment. Due to the rapid technological development and the combination of radiation therapy with radiosensitizing substances, the effectiveness of radiation treatment has greatly increased whereas the acute and delayed side effects have become less frequent. Nevertheless, there is a certain degree of sensitivity to radiotherapy or chemoradiotherapy, especially in elderly patients. In this article the broad spectrum of indications for radiation therapy in elderly patients and their characteristics will be discussed.
