The problem of conducting reconstruction works at hydrostations in Russia (then still the USSR) was on the agenda of seminars (conferences) held in the mid-1980s, i.e., more than 10 years ago. By that time there was a large group of hydrostations where the service life of equipment ended after 30 years. In those years the idea of comprehensive reconstruction of the hydrostation equipment, which made it possible to obtain an economic effect, held sway. "Patchwork" reconstruction, which included modernization of individual components of the generators or turbines and generators, was hailed at that time.
