The EU's peacekeeping force for the Central African Republic (CAR) hopes to reach full operational capability toward the end of May, according to its commander, France's Major General Philippe Ponties. While a number of EU countries have stepped forward with contributions, some capabilities are still lacking, Gen Ponties told reporters in Brussels on 2 April. "We still need some force protection and infantry elements, so the force-generation process is still continuing," he said.
