A US Air Force (USAF) HH-60G Pave Hawk helicopter based at Kadena Air Base in Okinawa Prefecture crashed on 5 August, prompting the delay of the scheduled deployment of a second squadron of MV-22 Osprey tilt-rotor aircraft to Okinawa, according to US and Japanese officials. The USAF said the HH-60 search-and-rescue helicopter was conducting a local training mission when it crashed in the forest of the Central Training Area near Camp Hansen, a US Marine Corps (USMC) base in Okinawa, at about 1600 h local time.
