The US Air Force (USAF) has determined the failure of a single electrical board is the likely culprit for a communication disruption that left 50 of the service's intercontinental ballistic missiles (ICBMs) largely ineffective for 46 minutes on 23 October.rnAlthough a definitive answer has yet to be determined for the fault, which led to the LGM-30G Minute-man Ills of the 319th Missile Squadron at FE Warren Air Force Base (AFB), Wyoming, registering as "Launch Facility Down" (LF Down), the circumstances are similar to two instances when a board used to route signals failed in 1998, Lieutenant Colonel John Thomas, a spokesman with USAF's Global Strike Command (GSC), told Jane's on 27 October.
