Israel's experience with asymmetric conflicts in Lebanon and Gaza has fuelled a debate at the heart of the Israel Defence Force (IDF) about the nature of ground manoeuvres in future conflicts.rnThe recently concluded Army Conference and Exhibition in Latrun illustrated the polarised positions within the senior officers corps about how to conduct ground warfare. Some favour swift advance against insurgent forces such as Hizbullah in Lebanon and Hamas in the Gaza Strip, while others argue for a more measured, deliberate offensive.
