The EU has opted to renew the mandate of its standing security mission in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) aiming to reform the security and defence sectors of the flailing central African nation.rnThe decision, taken on 15 September, will renew the EU security mission's (EUSEC's) support to Congolese authorities in setting up a defence apparatus "capable of guaranteeing the security of the Congolese people, while respecting democratic standards, human rights and the rule of law", the council said in a statement after its decision.
