During recent operations in Iraq the UK's Joint Helicopter Command (JHC) launched and successfully conducted the largest operation in its history. JHC assets operated throughout every phase of the conflict and the Joint Helicopter Force (Iraq) is still deployed in theatre to support UK and coalition forces. "Unquestionably, we would not have achieved what we did, the way that we did it, without JHC being here," says Air Vice Marshal Paul Luker, commander of the UK JHC. Established in October 1999 as a result of the UK' s Strategic Defence Review, the JHC provides, for the first time, a unified command structure for the nation's fleet of battlefield helicopters from the Royal Air Force (RAF), British Army and Royal Navy Commando force.
