This book discusses the failings of Islamic economics to emerge as a coherent discipline, to which the author dedicates the first four chapters, in approximately seventy pages. He then attempts to chart a way forward for that discipline in the remaining eighteen chapters, which consume the remaining 370 pages. In so doing, the author makes a sharp turn from a book about Islamic economics-indeed one that is very critical of the attempts to create such a discipline-to one that is solidly within that discipline, trying to salvage what it can of the vision of the discipline's ideological genesis around the middle of the twentieth century.
