In early 2009, the USA HUD (Housing and Urban Development) and DOT (Department of Transportation) announced a joint agreement to improve access to affordable housing, more transportation options, and lower transportation costs while protecting the environment in communities nationwide. The Environmental Protection Agency joined the partnership to ensure that these goals were met whilst simultaneously protecting the environment. As a result of this initiative all three agencies will be working together to improve livability in all communities, making them cleaner, more affordable, healthier, and strengthening businesses and jobs.
