The needs and desires of the elderly in clothing are largely neglected in the current clothing market of Hong Kong, even thought it has been shown that they may become the largest proportion of the population. In the present study, Hong Kong elderly (over 60 years) and young (between 20-34) women's buying behaviour and preferences in the materials, styles, colours, and price ranges of four types of garments (i.e. suits, blouses, casual shirts, and pants) were investigated. The difference between the preferences of elderly and young females pants) were investigated. The difference between the preferences of elderly and young females in Hong Kong were highlighted through comparison. This work also showed the remarkable differences in clothing preference between the elderly feamles in Hong Kong amd in western countries.
