You can use SmartSuite 3.x as a simple bundle of separate applications, writing memos in Ami Pro, crunching numbers in 1-2-3, building databases in Approach, and assembling slide shows in Freelance Graphics. But that would be like taking a Porsche out for a spin and never shifting out of first gear. If you really want to put Lotus's SmartSuite through its paces and create more attractive and informative documents with less toil, you need to try out the tools it provides for sharing data among its applications. 1-2-3 release 5.0, Ami Pro 3.1, Approach 3.0, and Freelance Graphics 2.1 offer all the standard Windows data-exchange features, including the Clipboard, OLE, and file importing and exporting. Besides these options, SmartSuite offers a whole load of unique tools, including custom macros for special data-exchange jobs and built-in integration that makes 1-2-3 and Approach perform as a suite- within-a-suite.
