摘要

The papers assembled in this special issue of Minerva have their origin at a workshop organized by Dominique Pestre and Peter Weingart in EHESS in Paris on May 26/27, 2008, under the auspices of the Max Planck Institute for the History of Science, Berlin. Like many of those who work in academia-and especially those whose specific occupation it is to reflect on the past and present development of science and its foremost institutions-we were (and still are) fascinated, and sometimes a bit frightened, by the impact of 'neo-liberal governmentality' (to use Michel Foucault's notion) on the entire academic culture. We felt that it was lime to confront our analyses on some of the notions, tools and technologies that recently developed, and to deepen our understanding of the new practical and discursive order(s) that sustain them.
