In full year 2015, a total of 224 oil tankers were reported sold, a y-o-y decline of 25% in numerical terms. This decline was largely due to the sharp fall in VLCC sales, which totalled 38 vessels in 2015, compared to a record high of 80 vessels in 2014. Meanwhile, the level of both Suezmax and Panamax sales remained relatively steady y-o-y in 2015 at 38 and 20 tankers respectively. All featured guideline five year old tanker prices were higher at the end of December 2015 than at the same time in 2014, with the price for a five year old MR rising 16% during 2015 to reach $29m at the end of December. The guideline price for a five year old Suezmax stood at $60m at the end of 2015.
