In commerce, many moral failures are due to a mindset that excludes moral dimensions of organizational decisions and actions. In turn, sometimes these mindsets are caused by failing to question managerial decisions from a moral position, because of the authority of management. In the 1960s, Stanley Milgram conducted seminal experiments to investigate how obedience to authority subverts a person's moral standpoint. Based on Migram's thought-provoking work, this book examines the prevalence of organizational mental models and obedience to an authority to analyse and understand the challenges which business professionals encounter in making ethical decisions. The book includes collaborative inputs and some mild critique. This five-author book starts with two conceptual introductions on which the second is dedicated to 'the role of mental models in the social construction morality'. The conceptual key to the book is the third chapter on 'Milgram studies: obedience, disobedience, and ethical challenges' while chapters four and five deal with an application of Milgram to an 'ethical context' and the organizational analysis of ethical and 'action'. Chapter six and seven map ethical obstacles and show some applications. The book aims to provide organizational decision-makers with the means to place ethical considerations at the heart of organizational decision-making.
