More than 20 companies have expressed interest in the sale of Teesside Power's 1,875 MW combined-cycle gas-fired power plant in the north-east of England, Platts has learnt. A spokesman for the plant's owners - Goldman Sachs and Carval Investors - told Platts that they had had "very good response to the initial sale document" which was issued two weeks ago. He said that a wide range of companies had expressed interest in the plant - UK generators, overseas bidders as well as banks and traders looking to own a physical asset to enable them to profit from fluctuating spark spreads. Vertically integrated power companies, such as RWE and EDF Energy, which already have offtake contracts in place with the plant, are also thought to be interested in buying the station.
