摘要

It is disheartening have followed North America's printed circuit fabrication industry from its beginnings though a magnificent zenith and down the backside of its life cycle. What is disheartening is not the industry's growth and falloff. Rather, it is that so many struggling participants seem to have learned so little about what it takes to succeed. They have failed to adapt. During a recent meeting of executives of material, chemical, and equipment suppliers, one company president asked, "What can we do to help these companies survive?" This question has been posed before, without a suitable response. The adage "you can lead a horse to water, but you cannot make him drink" seems to apply to so many fabricators. This year, the IPC's California Circuits Association sponsored a free traveling seminar in San Diego, Irvine, and San Jose. The focus was imaging, although other new technologies and processes from around the world were discussed. Each was held within a short driving distance from dozens of fabricators. Speakers flew in from the East Coast. Yet barely a handful of fabricators showed up.
