Role conflict and role ambiguity are inherent in the safety professional role by virtue of its boundary-spanning nature. A centralized reporting structure can minimize these role stressors, which are typically higher in decentralized settings. Restructuring teams can use this information when determining where SH&E professionals fit best in an organizational structure.
