These cultural phenomena reinforce the suggestion that popular science needs to be placed in a broader context, where possible. All of these people have authored popular books - and some continue to do so - but they are not the only, or even the most significant things they have done. Isolating their books for study, while convenient, will produce some insights into their work, but they will inevitably be limited.
