摘要

Professor Lai has to be congratulated for the excellent review about the development of sequential analysis since the pioneering work of Wald. The paper shows the strong influence of Wald's results on future generations and it describes major improvements obtained in the meantime to which Professor Lai has contributed in a leading position. Moreover, it contians a remarkable new result about the asymptotic optimality of the generalized likelihood ratio methods. I want to add some remarks from the perspective of a researcher working in the area of statistical process control (SPC). There are many possibilities to assess a control scheme. Of course, it is desirable to work exclusively with optimal charts. Optimality results depend heavily on the performance criterion taken for the comparison of the schemes.
