It is a particular pleasure for me to welcome Dr. Lai's paper because it covers the area I am deeply interested in and to which I devoted a lot of effort in the last 25 years. I commend Dr. Lai for taking the time to overview the state of research in Sequential Analysis during last three decades. I would like to begin by mentioning that Dr. Lai's contribution to Sequential Analysis in general, and to testing composite hypotheses and change-point detection problems in particular, is tremendous. His works in the field have led to unified theories of hypotheses testing and change detection that cover general statistical models not restricted to a standard i.i.d. assumption.
