Cet article se sert d'une enquête auprès de chefs d'entreprise débutantes pour évaluer la situation actuelle à la Barbade en matière de découverte et l'exploitation d'opportunités entre-preneuriales. Les résultats suggèrent que bien que la valeur sociale attribuée à l'entrepreneuriat ne soit pas élevée, il existe un attrait important envers le métier d'entrepreneur. En matière d'exploitation d'opportunités, si les personnes interrogées ont fait preuve de compétences commerciales informelles supérieures à la moyenne, ainsi que de lieu de contrôle interne, elles manquaient de compétences formelle et de rigueur. In terms of exploiting opportunities, while respondents had an above average capacity in 'soft' business skills, and an internal locus of control, they were lacking in 'hard' business skills and self-efficacy. While a bias in the surveyed group is noted, the results are instructive as they provide a best-case scenario of the current conditions in the country.
