In 2009, global polyester production increased rnby 3.1 % or nearly 1 million tons to 32 million tons. Of this, 19.6 million tons (+4%) was filament yarns and 12.4 million tons (+2%) staple fibers. This means that 74% of total synthetic fiber production (including PP fiber) were attributed to polyester fibers.
