Australian scientists are on the verge of creating new industries that will reduce environmental impacts from intensive rural industries, such as feedlots, meat processing and piggeries and lead to improved farm incomes and regional employment. The Environmental Biotechnology CRC (EBCRC) and the South Australian government recently launched a new $4.5 million project that will show how to turn the products from the wastewater of intensive rural industries into useful products such as fish and livestock feeds, fertiliser, safe recycled water and biogas. The South Australian Research & Development Institute (SARDI) is playing a crucial role in developing the new technologies by bringing its world-renowned expertise in creating useful products from waste to the project.
