No matter where you live, you will eventually experience severe weather in some form - snow, thunderstorms, tornadoes, or some other force of nature. The laboratory should plan accordingly. Once the event has ended, the lab should be checked for damage that could compromise analyst safety. Floors must be dry and free of dirt. Emergency exits must be cleared so that they can open completely. Also, escape routes must be cleaned and deiced, if necessary. Assembly points also must be similarly maintained. These sites should be listed in both your facility's safety plan and your lab safety plan. These plans should include a protocol for sheltering any evacuees, so, access to these sites also must be kept clear.
