摘要

To investigate several possible reasons for the neglect of services in research, including definitional difficulty, view as derivative activities, lack of defined processes or a scale, and variability effect on service performance. It is argued that the times have changed and none of the above-mentioned reasons are valid anymore. A caution is sounded that failure to emphasize services in research and teaching may signal the decline of the discipline. Selections of service research agendas are examined and the vast scope is pointed out. (75 refs.)
