摘要

In order to gain competitive advantage, organizations of various nature get certified with ISO 9000 quality management system. It is observed from experience that the evolution of ISO 9000 has started supporting the organization's Total Quality Management (TQM) practices. With an aim to know the degree of effeteness of ISO 9000 certification, it is attempted to study empirically whether (i) ISO 9000 certification significantly improves the effectiveness of quality management practices being implemented and (ii) ISO 9000 certification does bring significant benefits to improve the level of quality performance. A survey based on quality award criteria is conducted taking into account the organization's size, years of experience on ISO 9000 certification, the nature of operation. The outcomes of the analyses based on survey data are presented in detail. (27 refs.)
