Transition-metal-catalyzed CH bond functionalization has become a most challenging method for organic synthesis[ 1] in view of the large bond energy and the inertness of CH bond. The sp2 and sp3 CH bond activation and subsequent CC bond formation reaction catalyzed by ruthenium, rhodium, palladium, iridium, and other metal complexes with or without directing groups have been demonstrated.[2] In this context, we were particularly attracted by the PdIIcatalyzed directing-group-assisted ortho-functionalization of aromatic CH bond.
