UK drug delivery systems company The Medical House (TMH) has arranged a licence agreement with an undisclosed pharmaceutical company which will see it gain E27m (dollar53.1mJ over five years. Perhaps the most significant contract in Sheffield-based TMH's history, the agreement relates to TMH's disposable AutoSafety Injector (ASl) system. The ASl technology consists of a pre-fiiled syringe and needle, and has a hidden needle feature which helps overcome needle-phobia. TMH will receive technology access fees of around E18m, with contractual minimums accounting for at least E9m. However, any money the company will receive in 2007 will solely cover costs associated with the customisation of the device to suit the undisclosed drug, and commercialisation phases of the contract. Launch of the product is anticipated to begin in 2008. Use of the customised version of the ASl will be restricted to a specific drug and a limited number of indications. Should the drug-device combination product not reach market forany reason, TMH will receive cqmpensation.
