摘要

The economic importance of pa%toralism as a mobile livestock-keeping system has once again been highlighted in a report published by the International Union for Conservation of Nature (HATFIELD and DAVIES, 2006): while nomadism is up to ten times moreproductive than commercial ranching under the same conditions, pastoralists have often been deprived of their rights in favour of allowing others to establish sedentary production in their stead. This unfavourable institutional environment for pastoralists and their coordinated efforts regarding commons management are the central topics of this special issue.
