摘要

At 'The Invaders' conference earlier this year Hugh Evans outlined current and future threats to UK tree species from a range of non-native insect pests. Current and future threats to trees in the UK from insect invaders are well illustrated by considering the examples of four contrasting pests: the great spruce bark beetle, the gypsy moth, the Asian longhorn beetle and the horse chestnut leafminer. The great spruce bark beetle (Dendroctonus micans) is relatively new to Britain. It was first found in 1982 but evidence suggests that it has been present here since at least 1973.
