Steel shares heated up the Seoul's stock market in 2007. Average stock prices of 14 major local steelmakers as of December 28, 2007 were up 59 percent from January 2 last year. However, in contrast to a conspicuous surge in stocks for integrated steelmakers or electric furnace steelworks which are able to secure cost competitiveness and efficiently cope with their business environments by operating upper stream process, those steelmakers that have only down stream process for the production of e simple cold-rolled steel products or steel pipes enjoyed a relatively low rise in their stock prices last year.
