POSCO Chairman & CEO Lee Ku-taek attended the Board of Directors meeting of the International Iron and Institute (IISI) held at Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, April 25 and discussed the issues facing the global steel industry such as the demand and supply of raw materials and the future development of the industry with the leaders of global steel companies. The major agendas for the meeting included the extension of the IISI membership to China which accounts for about 30 percent of the global steel demand and about a fourth of the supply, the settlement of the IISI's account for 2003 and the report of the ongoing negotiations of the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) to eliminate the trade-distorting steel subsidies.
