The public expects and demands that our forests will be managed sustainably. Practicing sustainable forest management requires a significant number of skills, many of which are only possessed by professional foresters. Recently, there has been a steady decline in enrollment in university forestry programs. This trend is contrary to other programs where the demand for places in Canadian universities is increasing at an unprecedented rate. It has been suggested that a similar trend exists in college forestry programs as well.
