Coreless induction furnaces have been used for decades in many foundries for melting and or holding non-ferrous alloys. The need to reduce the melting times and to optimize energy consumption, has forced the OEM (furnace builders) to develop medium frequency high power furnaces, in order to increase their productivity. In these conditions, the refractory lining is subject to a high thermal, chemical and mechanical abuse which reduces its life. The aim of this paper is to introduce an innovative solution to re-line coreless induction furnaces. This technology uses a combination of pre-formed shapes and dry ramming mixes. The goal is to simplify the installation and to increase the life of the refractory lining, making the cleaning easier and reducing the energy consumption of the furnace.
