Primal structure and activity studies of allatostatin 4 (AST 4)

摘要

The juvenile hormones (JH) are critical to the control of insect development and reproduction. The production of JH by the corpora allata (CA) is regulated in part by peptides originating from brain. One group of these peptides termed allatostatins (AST) reversibly inhibits the biosynthesis of JH invitro. The correlation of these events suggests that AST, i.e. their biosynthesis, are important in the regulation of JH biosynthesis. The D. punctata was maintained and staged females were obtained. Analogs were synthesized by tBoc solid phase peptide synthesis. Each analog was purified by HPLC, and amino acid composition and peptide quantity were determined by amino acid analysis. The radiochemical in vitro CA, i. e. JH biosynthesis assay was used to test the relation of structure and activity.
