Of organic compounds, nitronic esters are a group of unusual compounds. According to their chemical formula (R_1R_2C = NO_2R_3), they might be formally obtained from condensation of aci-nitro compounds (nitronic acids) and alcohols with an equivalentamount of water eliminated. In fact, neither could nitronic esters be produced by this method, nor could they be hydrolyzed into nitronic acids and alcohols, Since they are generally unstable (most of the known nitronic esters could only survive at roomtemperature from minutes to weeks), research work related to nitronic esters has seldom been reported in literature.
